So Die Hard 4 is on it’s way to us in just a couple of months now. I’m always excited to see a new Die Hard movie, and to be honest, this is one I’ve been waiting for for a long time (what can I say, I’m one of those very rare freaks who actually liked the third one the best). Now, AICN is reporting that a reader told them of an upcoming Bruce Willis interview in the June issue of Vanity Fair, in which the former Mr. Demi Moore says:
“In June’s VANITY FAIR, it states that Bruce Willis was initially disappointed that his fourth DIE HARD film will likely be cut to get a PG-13 rating rather than an R. ‘I really wanted this one to live up to the promise of the first one, which I always thought was the only really good one.’ And he’s not happy about it. ‘That’s a studio decision that is becoming more and more common, because they’re trying to reach a broader audience. It seems almost a courageous move to give a picture an R rating these days. But we still made a pretty hardcore, smashmouth film.'”
They guy who sent this into AICN then went on a LONG rant about how PG-13 automatically means the movie will suck, that only R rated action films make money and a bunch of other stuff.
Ok, now first let’s all take a huge grain of salt here. Just because a “reader” sent in this report doesn’t mean it’s true. But let’s for arguments sake say that it is true and that Die Hard 4 is indeed going to be getting a PG-13 rating. The big question is…
WHO THE HELL CARES?!?!?!
Ok yes, with a PG-13 you can’t show Bruce feasting on the brains of his fallen victims. No, you can’t watch Bruce take a chain saw and cut out the still beating heart of his enemy and then shove it back up his ass. But aside from that… explain to me how any of the trade mark Die Hard action sequences are going to be effected in any way, shape or form? Yes, it means the word “fuck” will have to be used sparingly… but have we really become so pathetic that unless “fuck” is said every other word then the movie isn’t worth watching? (if you’ve ever listened to our show you know I have no objection to language… but it isn’t REQUIRED either).
To be honest, if you really watch the Die Hard movies, then only reason they got Rs is because of the language. The violence has mostly been nothing but good solid action violence without much stuff that would normally warrant an “R” anyway. So to me… who cares?
