Grindhouse Straight To DVD In UK?

Look, despite how bad I thought Death Proof was ( a horrible, boring exposition movie of 4 women just sitting around talking… and then a 2nd set of 4 women who did nothing but sit around and talk. Just add Rosie O’Donell and the fucking film could have been called “The View: The movie”), the fact of the matter is that the over all experience of Grindhouse was an enjoyable one and I really wish Rodriguez, Tarantino and the Wiensteins had been better rewarded for the balls to make a project like this one. But as you all know… we punished them for their creativity instead, and Grindhouse totally bombed. Such a shame.

So there has been a lot of whispers and rumors going around about what will happen with Grindhouse when it hits other markets. Previously, the word has been that Grindhouse was going to be split into 2 separate movies in the UK. That may still be the case… but in reading the site of our good friends over at Film Junk, it looks like the Grindhouse experience may just go straight to DVD instead.

the movie is “facing the very real prospect of a DVD-only release in Britain and the rest of Europe”. Yikes! When we first heard that they were taking some time to rethink the U.K. release of Grindhouse, most of us assumed they were simply considering separate theatrical releases. But direct to DVD? That’s gotta hurt.

Ouch indeed. But who knows.. maybe this will be for the best. Maybe they’ll at least release Gindhouse on DVD as one movie instead of breaking it up and selling it as two separate dvds (that will be the next rumor I’m sure). Still, the theater going Grindhouse experience was a fun one… and I lament for my international friends if this turns out to be true and they don’t get to experience it the way I did. Shame.
