With the pressures and lack of privacy that superstars face today, I am surprised that this doesnt happen more often. Keira Knightley has expressed some concerns about her career choice.
Actress Keira Knightley has said the pressures of being a celebrity may force her to quit acting for good.
In an interview with Elle magazine the Oscar-nominated actress said she was particularly worried about being featured on pro-anorexia websites.
The star of films like Pirates of the Caribbean and Pride and Prejudice said being famous was “completely crazy”.
She added she did not want naturally thin women to be a “scapegoats for promoting a mental illness”.
The 22-year-old actress says being the centre of media attention had forced her to reconsider her acting career.
“I think I just have to move away or give it up altogether,” she said.
And I don’t blame her. The girl is an easy target for the pinup generation aspiring to be unreasonably thin. And Keira fits that bill. And I for one am impressed that she is speaking out against this sort of stereotype.
Sure the girl is super slim, but she is also incredibly fit. She religiously takes part in a rigorous workout routine to keep her toned body in top shape. Some criticize that its TOO toned, or TOO thin, and the pressures of this burden are driving her to put on some pounds.
Ironic that supermodel of the 60s “Twiggy” or Ally McBeal star Calista Flockheart are not carrying this blame with them, but its trendy to focus on the unheathy behaviours inspired by popular media, and who better to make your postergirl for boneracks, but the slimmest, and most publicized waif in Hollywood.
I would miss her in films as I tend to like Keira (even in spite of King Arthur) but I can empathize with her position. I wouldnt want to live a life of fame, though I wouldnt mind the payday.
