Directed by Joshua Michael Stern, “Vote” revolves around a single father thrust into the national spotlight when the presidential election comes down to his vote. The pic begins lensing in July, says Variety.
“Swing Vote” will be the first project to come from Costner and producing partner Jim Wilson’s new shingle, Treehouse Films. An offshoot of their Tig Prods, Treehouse will produce film, television and online content produced fully by Costner. Tig will still exist for development of more studio-based projects.
I am always game for more Costner. The idea of this film does sound a little lame to me, but maybe they will pull it off. The idea is too ridiculous to believe, and yet some elections do come oddly close. The moral that “every vote counts” is a good one if you believe in democracy and the movie may be sensational to hammer home that point.
What would make the story more interesting to me is if he were a recluse. Instead of having his kids on his mind as he casts the vote, he would simply dwell on his own lot in life and disdain for society. Society will be waiting on the vote of a loner outcast. During his journey of self-discovery, maybe he can find his bike and spend some time in the basement of the Alamo.
That is a movie!
