Mel Gibson Wants Maverick 2?

I’m a Mel Gibson fan and I don’t care what the fuck anyone else has to say about it. The man has balls of steel, making films he finances himself that everyone else says never had a chance… (Remember how everyone talked about how badly Apocalypto would fail? Dead language, subtitled, yadda yadda yadda? Well it made just shy of $120 million world wide on a $40 million production budget. once again Mel laughs all the way to the bank) and he makes damn good movies too. He gets caught drunk driving (something he should have gone to jail for in my opinion) and while hammered slurred some really stupid crap out of his mouth. (I’d like to see how well you would hold up if everything stupid you ever said was recorded and reported 1000 times in the media for the world to see).

Now… having said that… this newest rumor floating around is a strange one to me. Seems Mel Gibson is gearing up for making Maverick 2. The good folks over at Cinematical give us this:

Word is that James Garner is interested in coming back — but nothing on the participation of Jodie Foster has been offered thus far. (Which is a shame because Jodie, playing it light for a change, was one of the true highlights of Richard Donner’s Maverick.) According to Hollywood.com, Mr. Gibson is overstuffed with nifty new ideas for Maverick 2: “I think audiences will enjoy what we’ve got in mind. It won’t be happening immediately, but I dare say, it’ll happen.”

I actually liked the first Maverick movie… and I’m always up for seeing james Garner on screen. But I don’t know. Personally I’m not ecactly jacked to see this, and it certainly wouldn’t be my first choice for Mel’s on screen return. Think I’d rather see him try something new. Nothing against sequels… just that maverick wouldn’t be the one I’d pick.
