I can’t help it… I really like Nia Vardalos. It’s just total conincidence, but I actually ended up watching “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” again last night. Man I forgot how good that movie is. It’s not just funny (replace “Greek” with “Italian” and that was totally my family in the movie) but it’s also touching and makes some great observations about life (to me anyway). Hell, I didn’t even think Connie and Carla was all that bad. Not great… but not as horrible as some people seem to think it was.
Anyway, it looks like another film Vardalos has penned is ready for production. Vardalos and James Purefoy (Rome, A Knight’s Tale) are set to appear in her new film “I Hate Valintines Day”. The good folks over at Yahoo give us this:
The indie movie, written by Vardalos, follows a commitment-phobic woman who closely adheres to a set of dating rules but finds them put to the test when she falls for a Brit who dumps her. “He’s mischievous and dirty on the phone, so he’s a joy to write for,” Vardalos said about Purefoy. “The part was written for an American guy in mind, but I’m now revamping the script to make it about a British guy who doesn’t understand the ways of American women.”
This isn’t going to be the next “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, but every once in a while a nice light rom com is ok in my books. Let’s just hope she’s more to form with the Greek Wedding MOVIE than she was with the horrible Greek Wedding TV show. Oh god that was horrible.
