Looks like the horned one is cleaning up on the rental market. We get the news from the caves of yahoo:
The film, an Oscar winner for art direction, cinematography and makeup, topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the week ending May 20, scoring a double whammy for New Line Home Entertainment.
“Labyrinth,” which earned $37.5 million in theaters, handily beat another new release with a significantly bigger boxoffice take, Sony Pictures’ “Stomp the Yard,” a musical drama that grossed $61.4 million. “Stomp” debuted at No. 2 on the sales chart but mustered only an eighth-place finish on the rental chart with earnings of $4 million, compared with $6.5 million for “Pan’s Labyrinth.”
Pan’s Labyrinth was downright fucking amazing. It was a beautiful story that perfectly weaved fairy tale with real life drama in order to present us a delightful tale of the power of human imagination in order to overcome immeasurable horror.
I am not surprised that this movie is doing so well. This film has legs and could become a word of mouth rental juggernaut. I love fantasy films because you can make up the most fantastic of worlds and marvelous of creatures. Not only is Pan’s Labyrinth a glorious fantasy film, but once again pays tribute to the human ability of imagination. If you have not seen this film – rent it.
