New sequel news to astonish and astound! Point Break 2 is on deck to be made! We get the story from the moviehole:
The writer of the original film, Peter Iliff, tells Channel News Asia that the new film will be set in Asia. He also announced he’d be directing the movie. “I would like to return to Point Break because it represents my career coming full circle. The original was the first movie I ever wrote, the sequel would be my first ever directorial effort.”
Though Keanu Reeves’ character, Johnny Utah, isn’t expected to return, Patrick Swayze’s Bodhi does (so, what, he never got swept up into the waves after all?).
The new film is said to fix on ex-professional surfer who enlists in the US Navy and is recruited to track down a criminal gang based in South-East Asia.
I am reservedly excited about this project. I think it is kick ass that Point Break has a sequel…if Patrick Swayze returns as Bohdi. If I see another sequel of a Swayze film without Swayze starring in the film I am going to snap. I hope Peter Iliff keeps it real, and gives us a return with Swayze that we all hunger for so badly.
I think the plot of this film sounds over the top ridiculous. I have a hard time seeing how a bank robbing surfer would want to join the navy and start fighting crime. Then again, I thought it was ridiculous that surfers were bank robbers in the first film and it turned out to be awesome. Point break is a celebration of the ridiculous and the awesome, Swayze is the man that walks the line and makes it work, he needs to return.
