More comic book movie news on the table today, It looks like Sgt. Rock will be starring in his own war epic. We get the scoop from comicbookmovie.com:
From IGN Filmforce interview David Cambino comments on the Sgt. Rock script from John Cox’s; “fantastic and everybody’s really happy with it,”
Gambino continued with his thoughts on current views towards war films and the possibilities with Sgt. Rock; “We’re living in times now where people are questioning whether or not we should be in Iraq, and I think World War II was the last war where it was pretty clean-cut who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. I think audiences still love that, they still love going back to that era where the politics of the time were very clear as to who we wouldn’t want to take out and who were the heroes. And Sgt. Rock tries to capture some of that.”
If they can make a good Sgt. Rock movie it would be an all out celebration of bravery and machismo. A good leader/coach character is always essential to a movie about a team/platoon. You need a person that demands respect, regardless of personality flaws, the leader must always garner respect from his men. Sgt. Rock is such a man.
War movies are a rush. It is violence, with the dash of realism that brings so much emotion to the viewing of the picture. To see young dudes ripped apart by mechanized killing machines is something we should never want to see. But as long as war is part of our lives It is something we deal with, and one of the best ways to do so is to burn war tales on celluloid and root for the good guys.
