Tim Allen continues to collect the most ecclectic group of films on his resume. Today we learn of his upcoming Martial Arts film from the moviehole:
The funny man is breaking free – not only from Disney, but – from the family comedies he’s made his name on by starring in a mixed-martial arts movie from director Rob Cohen (“The Fast and the Furious”).
“Redbelt” stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a Jiu-jitsu master whose purity is compromised when he is drawn into the movie business and manipulated into brawling in ultimate fighting matches. Allen, last seen in the terrible smash hit “Wild Hogs”, plays a troubled action star with marital problems who meets the master when he is getting pummeled in a street fight.
The plot of this film sounds like a cheeseball 80’s karate film with “katate” being replaced with “mixed martial arts” in order to modernize it. This sounds so rediculous it may be awesome. It is certainly on “awesome watch,” that is for sure.
Tim Allen is a man whom I find to be quite humorous. I am not a fan of his stand up or most of his films and yet I like him. He is a naturally very funny man and is extremely likeable. I will always give him a chance, and perhaps this is the film that will celebrate his abilities.
I hope there is a fight scene in the film where Tim Allen shows us all the dirty tricks he learned in the slammer. Maybe that is what we need, a Tim Allen prison comedy – that would be a testament to toungue in cheek hilarity.
