I really like Zach Braff. I think the guy is a great performer, very personable and his TV show is amazingly funny (I just started watching it not too long ago). But no matter how nice, or how talented a guy is sometimes… they just can’t seem to make a successful jump to the Big Screen. Sadly it looks like Zach Braff may be one of those guys.
His new film “The Ex” with Jason Bateman and Amanda Peet (one of the hottest women on the planet in my opinion) TOTALLY TANKED this weekend. It only made $1.4 million. I knew it wasn’t going to do all that well… but I never thought it would be THAT low.
His last film, “The Last Kiss” (which was actually pretty decent) only made about $4 million on its opening weekend too. And for all the praise it gets, that fact of the matter is that “Garden State” only ended up making under $30 million in total. These numbers all leave me rather perplexed.
Braff is a popular figure. So here’s my question… why is no one going to see his movies? Why can’t a guy with a show as popular as Scrubs get anyone to take time to go see one of his movies? Is this just another case of the “Friends Syndrome” (No one from Friends has been able to generate a successful film draw presence yet (with MAYBE the exception of Jen Aniston… but that’s debatable). Or is it something else?
