John’s Pathology Set Visit

Milo1

John with Milo Ventimigila

On Saturday I arrived in Los Angeles… 5.5 hour flight that started by getting to the Toronto airport at 6:30am. Man I was tired… but I got off the plane, got my rental car and headed straight over to Raleigh Studios over in Manhattan Beach to visit the set of the new film “Pathology”.

As you may remember, Pathology is the new project being written and produced by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (the guys who wrote and directed “Crank”) and stars Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Patreli from the hit show “Heroes”). We had Mark and Brian on as guests on The Movie Blog Uncut LIVE show a few weeks back when they were telling us about the project. Anyway…. just to be totally upfront, Mark has become kind of a friend of mine… so take everything I say with a grain of salt… but I am going to give you my honest impressions here…

The idea behind the film is just fantastic. A group of young doctors form a little group to play a sick game. They each take turns killing some victim, and then the other doctors in the group have to try to figure out how the person got killed. Milo is one of the doctors. How fricking cool does that sound?!?!?!

Early on in the set visit, Mark took me back to his office and started showing me some of footage they’ve already shot. I’m not kidding… in about 7 minutes I yelled out “HOLY SHIT” at least 5 times. This movie has so much of the action, gore, sex and the type of pure adrenaline you’ve come to expect from the Crank guys… and Milo seems totally perfect for the role.

Overall I spent about 5 hours on the set as they filmed one of the “let’s figure out how you killed this guy” scenes. It was so cool. The make up and physical visual effects are right off the scale on this film. I got to look at a few of the fake bodies. The DETAIL an pure realism of these things was unnerving to say the least. I was actually a little uncomfortable looking at them. Yikes.

Lucky for us, we only have to wait until November for Pathology to hit the theaters (at least that’s what they tell me the plan is). I’ll tell you guys a TON more as we get closer to the release date. But needless to say this is one you should have on your radar.

As a side note… Mark Neveldine was just as giddy as a virgin nerd who was about to get laid for the first time… him and Brian just landed Gerard Butler (Lead guy from 300) to star in their next film “The Game” that starts shooting in November. But I’ll tell you more about that one later.

I guess Milo didn’t like my thoughts on the season Finale of Heroes. (Seriously, Milo is one hell of a nice guy. Took out like 20 full minutes just to sit and chat while everyone else was shooting).
