It looks like Thor has hammered out a director in Matthew Vaughan. We get the scoop from the moviehole:
Matthew Vaughan (“Layer Cake”) is in talks to direct “Thor”, based on the classic Marvel comic property, says the LA Times.
Interestingly enough, Vaughan was originally attached to helm “X-Men 3” a couple of years back. He pulled out at the 9th – 9th,, I say, because they still had enough time to try out a couple of replacements, ultimately deciding on Brett Ratner – hour.
Thor is my favorite superhero, and growing up was my favorite comic book. I was lucky enough to get a Walt Simonson issue as a birthday present, and devoured it. It was issue 376 and Thor was up against the Absorbing Man. I read issues before that, but I fell for the storytelling of Simonson and soon began to collect every issue my weekly 2 Dollar allowance would allow.
As you can well imagine, I am very excited to see this film. I hope beyond all hope that it is an entertaining story that pays tribute to the artists that have worked on the series. From what I can gather the script writer Mark Protosevich is going to use the Dr. Blake origin story in the film, which would naturally lead to a confrontation with Thor’s evil half brother Loki the trickster!
I am going to try and reach Protosevich to see if I can shake any info out of him regarding the script. I was surprised to see today that Matthew Vaughan was nabbed to direct. We are still in the dark to why he bailed on X-Men, but perhaps he was waiting for a superior comic book movie to come available. Vaughan has not directed a large number of films, but he has received acclaim for what he has. His film Layer Cake was celebrated with many awards and hopefully this level of excellence continues as he embarks on the tales of the Thunder God.
KRRRRRAAAAKKKKKAAAATHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!
