It appears the Fantastic Four can handle the threat of Galactus, but when a projectionist from the crossroads rears his critical mouth – the studio saves the day! We get the scoop from the caves of Yahoo:
A projectionist at a Memphis theater chain has lost his job after writing an unauthorized early review of “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” for the Web site Ain’t It Cool News.
Jesse Morrison, the projectionist, claims that the film’s distributor, 20th Century Fox, was behind the decision by Malco Theatres Inc. to suspend him for an undetermined period. The studio denied the charge.
On Saturday, http://www.AintItCool.com posted a negative review by Morrison (writing under his online moniker Memflix) under the headline “Memflix crushes all hope for ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”‘
I do not think it is any surprise that this guy got canned. If you leak early reviews, and you work at a theater, it is safe to say that you knew the risks. It is a little severe to fire the guy when others have already released reviews about the film but it is certainly not a surprise. I am sure If his review was positive it would of not been such a big deal.
This may have a domino effect however, thanks to stories like this being in the news. The more the studios try to stomp out these little fires with force, the higher chance you have of making them spread. When people find out that they may be able to get cash for early reviews, most people who make 7 dollars an hour will jump at the chance. If you want to stop this sort of information leaking, try paying projectionists a decent wage. Until they make decent money, the reward will always be worth the risk and we will see more of the same.
