All of the questions of whether or not Sean Connery would be back in Indiana Jones 4 as Dr. Jones Sr. have been answered over at the oficial Indiana Jones website. Despite the fact that George Lucas has repeated said that he has Connery in the script, Sir Connery has announced that he will NOT be appearing in the film:
While the man with the hat is back, this time he’s not bringing his Dad. Sean Connery, who retired from acting in 2005, said:
“I get asked the question so often, I thought it best to make an announcement. I thought long and hard about it and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an Indiana Jones film. I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun.
This is a shame, but not unexpected really. Connery has been very open with his retirement and the fact that he would probably stay that way (although on a side note, I do expect we’ll see him in another film eventually). So I guess the script goes back for a quick re-write to eliminate anything with Connery in it. I’m guessing they didn’t have too much with him in it in the first place just in case something like this happened.
On another side note… I just watched Red October on the flight to LA last week again. DAMN that movie is wicked. Connery belongs on the screen.
