As most of you know by now, Transformers star Shia LaBeouf (who was freaking amazing in that movie. I was worried… silly me) is one of the participant in the grand facade known as “Indiana Jones 4”. Anyway…
The word started flying around yesterday that Shia’s contract includes a studio option for 3 more Indiana Jones films after this alleged one. Well, our friends over at Slashfilm found something that may debunk that rumor. Here’s what they report:
“That’s purely a rumor,” John Singh, Director of Publicity for Lucasfilm. Ltd told MTV News. “Idle chatter among Internet fans.”
Does this mean the rumors aren’t true? Well… maybe and maybe not. Let’s make a couple of things clear:
1) Just because an actor has SIGNED for a future movie, does NOT mean any decision has been made to make that movie. All it means, is that the studio has locked up the actor who is then obliged to appear in the movie IF the studio ever decides to move ahead with it. IF Shia does indeed have this in his contract, it DOES NOT mean that there are plans for more Indiana Jones films necessarily.
2) These clauses in actors contracts today are common
3) The statement from the Lucasfilm PR person doesn’t sound like a flat out denial to me. PR people are tricky with the language they use so they can say something without actually saying it. his statement seems to have some wiggle room.
4) There is no Indiana Jones 4… so the whole thing is moot anyway. :P
