I haven’t minced words about Spider-Man 3 before… and I won’t now. Spider-Man 3 was a giant pile of shit from start to finish with little to no redeeming value whatsoever. Some people dismiss my opinion saying that “Your expectations were just too high”. That’s nonsense since my “expectations” for Spider-Man 2 were just as high… and THAT movie ROCKED. Still, film is subjective and to each their own. Anyway….
There have generally been 2 facts understood for some time now:
1) There will be a Spider-Man 4. The studio has stated this in no uncertain terms.
2) Not everyone will be back. Thank god.
One of the bigger questions has been “will Sam Raimi return to direct Spider-Man 4”? Personally, I don’t think he will. He’s used up basically 7 years on this franchise, and I’ve got to think he’s itching to move on to something else… like say… oh I don’t know…. THE HOBBIT!!!!. Not to mention, I think Spider-Man 3 has shown us that creatively he’s run out of gas for this franchise.
However, The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that within the next couple of weeks, sam Raimi will have his very first meeting with the execs at Sony since Spider-Man 3 to discuss the future of the franchise. It’s a good bet that we’ll probably know in the next month or so for certain if he plans on returning to the franchise… or if he will indeed move on to new projects and pass Spider-Man off to fresh blood
What do you think will happen?
