Saw 5 and Saw 6

Jigsaw-SawSaw is a franchise that, to me, started off with some decent potential, but began that quick descent into nonsense, accumulating in the utterly boring torture porn mess (no doubt influenced by Hostel) known as Saw 3. But, the film made money, and thus another one is on its way soon.

But getting an early jump on things, it looks like the studio has already locked in their director for Saw 5 and Saw 6. The good folks over at MovieHole give us this:

David Hackl has gotten the go-ahead on both “Saw V” & “Saw VI”. If David’s name sounds familiar to you – it should. He worked as the Production Designer on II-IV, and as a Second Unit Director on parts II & IV. Hackl will take over the reigns from Darren Lynn Bousman, who has helmed each installment since “Saw II”.

Obviously these won’t happen if Saw 4 bombs… which brings up an interesting question…

In light of how recent genre horror/gore film have bombed (Hostel 2, Captivity) how do you think Saw 4 will perform? Granted, Saw 4 isn’t being released in the summer… but do you think the general movie going audience is tired of this schtick? Has the novelty lost it’s flavor on people? Was Saw 3 bad enough on its own? How do YOU think it will perform?
