As whacky as the dude is (and he is pretty up there on the whole whacko scale), one had to admit that Tom Cruise gets himself into some pretty great roles. Right now he’s filming a movie I can’t wait to see (Valkyrie being directed by Bryan Singer), and now it looks like he could be playing the lead in Edwin A. Salt.
Movieweb give us this:
Terry George, best known for directing Hotel Rwanda, is once again jumping behind the camera for Columbia Pictures’ Edwin A. Salt. According to Variety, the film is being prepped as a starring vehicle for actor Tom Cruise. The script, written by Equilibrium director Kurt Wimmer, revolves around Salt, a CIA officer who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt must escape capture and prove his innocence. He also sets out to reunite with his estranged family.
Cruise is a solid all round actor… but I find he’s at his best in films like this one. The “suspense, intrigue with dashes of action” films (The Firm, Minority Report, A Few Good Men). Edwin A Salt sounds like it goes right his ally. Having someone like George directing it doesn’t hurt either.
It feels nice now that Tom Cruise is just keeping his mouth shut and letting us focus on him as an actor instead of the publicly raging psychopath
