Transformers Breaks 4th Of July Record

I’ll admit, I thought it was pretty crazy of Paramount to release Transformers on a Tuesday (and really… it pretty much opened most places Monday night). But I guess I was wrong. Apparently Transformers just broke the 4th of July record. The folks over at Yahoo give us this:

Sci-fi action film “Transformers” smashed another box-office record by grossing $29.1 million on its second full day of release — the most ever for a July 4 holiday, according to figures released on Thursday. “Transformers,” based on the shape-shifting characters of the popular toy line and cartoon television series, broke the previous Independence Day record held by “Spider-Man 2,” which grossed nearly $22 million on July 4, 2004, the box office tracking service Media By Numbers reported.

Not bad. Opinion on the film still stays positive, but diverse. Exit polls for the film are hovering around 90%, the Rotten Tomatoes “Cream of the Crop” film critics hold it at around 75%, while the majority of the smaller RT critics still give thumbs up with a less impressive 58%. Of corse the only opinion that really matters is mine… and I say it’s the best damn entertainment in the movie theaters so far this year. :)

How well will Transformers do this weekend? That’s anybody’s guess… but I’ll say Transformers will be sitting at around $160 million by the end if it’s first 7 days.
