It’s no secret that I’m no fan of Tom Cruise… however, I do think the guy is a hell of an actor, and this new film of his, “Valkyrie” has got me pretty stoked. For those of you who don’t know, Valkyrie is based on the true story of a German conspiracy to assassinate Adolf Hitler during the second world war, and focuses on one general in particular (played by Cruise).
I love these types of films… and when you add Bryan Singer as the director, with a cast that includes Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Patrick Wilson, Stephen Fry and Tom Wilkinson, you’re off to a solid start. The project has also just set its release dates. The folks over at Coming Soon give us this:
United Artists is targeting an August 8, 2008 release for the Bryan Singer-directed Valkyrie. In the thriller, based on actual events and written by Nathan Alexander and Christopher McQuarrie, German generals hatch a scheme to assassinate Adolph Hitler at the height of World War II.
If often wondered about all those German’s living in that era who disagreed with Hitler must have felt. It must have been a obstreperous, chaotic time for them. Probably how a lot of Americans feel living under Bush (ZING!). But seriously folks, I’m always a sucker for these war time intrigue movies… especially ones based on actual events. With this director, and this cast… I honestly can’t wait to see this.
