In the category of “Things you learned today” the all growed up Fred Savage of TVs Wonder Years fame and the grandson in the instant classic Princess Bride, was responsible for keeping the director’s chair warm in this followup to the charming yet modestly recieved Daddy Day Care. Who would have guessed that a sequel to an Eddie Murphy film WITHOUT EDDIE MURPHY could possibly fail??
Camp is setting new standards in sequel suckiness. Rotten Tomatoes has it listed at an impressive 2%. Looks like Fred Savage and his mom were the only voters. Oh, sorry. Only one positive review on there means even his mom didn’t vote.
Rotten Tomatoes lists this quip among its choice reviewer’s comments:
The screenplay is attributed to three writers. That means if the film’s funny parts were divided evenly among them, they each wrote zero.
So with a little investigating I found out that Fred Savage has only ever directed select TV Episodes and this would be his first foray into the big screen world.
Ouch. Rough start.
However the once impressive Cuba Gooding Jr has slimmed down and seemed to have had his talent surgically removed with any mass he used to cary that made him even passable as a professional football player. And being a weak sequel to an Eddie Murphy family film combined with deleted scenes from Ernest goes to Camp, I didn’t have high hopes for this anyways
