Highlander: The Source Going Straight To TV

Highlander-SourceThe original “The Highlander” movie is one of my top 10 all time favorite movies. The second Highlander film is one of my top 10 worst of all time. Go figure. Part 3 was a noble effort, but still fell short, and the last one was… was… oh wow I just don’t have the words for how bad it was either.

For some time now we’ve been talking about the newest Highlander film (that finished filming in 2005) called “Highlander: The Source” with this one exclusively focussing on the Highlander TV cast (which wasn’t a bad show) with Duncan MacLeod as the lead character (played pretty well by Adrian Paul). The problem is that the damn thing was supposed to be out by now.

Sometimes when a movie doesn’t turn out so well, the production company will put it straight to DVD. But hold the phone. Is straight to DVD too good for Highlander: The Source? I looks like it. Seems the movie is going straight to TV. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:

Ouch, now this has got to hurt worse than losing one’s head. The troubled – but again, what’s a “Highlander” movie without behind-the-scenes brouhah? – fifth “Highlander” film, the long-awaited “Highlander : the Source”, is skipping cinemas and going straight to…. TV. Yes, TV. It’ll premiere on The Sci Fi Channel in September. Considering how many years it took to get this thing up, and how many sweat beads were expunged as a result of it, there’s bound to be a few cheesed off chiefs tonight.

Wow… straight to DVD. As of this moment, the official Highlander: The Source website is still claiming that the film we be “released” theatrically in September… but it looks like the last update to the site was back in MARCH! That’s a sign of quality folks. Let’s hope this means the final end of The Highlander.
