I’m a huge Steve Martin fan. The dude is brilliant, a terrific writer, and his stand up still holds up as some of the best ever. However, Martin also has a bad habit of getting himself involved with some terrible projects. Case in point… The Pink Panther. Wy he did that film I’ll never really know. Maybe he lost a bet. Or maybe, at some point he legitimately thought it was a good idea. Either way, the movie was just bad, and best just forgotten.
But wait… they don’t want you to forget it. They’re making a new one (not new news). And somehow, they’ve convinced Andy Garcia and John Cleese to join up for the sinking ship party. The folks over at Moviehole give us this:
Andy Garcia, John Cleese, Alfred Molina and Aishwarya Rai (whatever happened to that movie she was supposed to be doing with Michael Douglas? “Racing the Monsoon”?) will join Steve Martin and Aussie supermodel Jennifer Hawkins in “The Pink Panther 2”. Cleese will play chief inspector Dreyfus in the pic. Garcia, Molina and Rai have signed on as detectives and experts who join forces with Clouseau to catch the thief who has been stealing artifacts around the world.
Well… sure… whatever floats your boat I guess. Maybe with Bond ditching the “Q” character Cleese has been hard up for work. Maybe they just backed up a dump truck full of money to Garcia’s house. Your guess is as good as mine. I just wish Martin would start doing some better stuff again.
