Johnny Quest Movie In The Works

Johnny-QuestSo, would you be interested in a Johnny Quest movie? Look, I’m one of those suckers who gets all excited about movie ideas surrounding things from my childhood… even if it doesn’t look like a great idea on the surface. Johnny Quest was before my time, but there were tons of re-runs of it always playing on tv, so I saw a lot of it. I never thought it was that good of a tv show to start with… even as a kid.

However, the folks over at Warner Bros. seem to think there might be legs in the idea. Yahoo News gives us this:

The cult Hanna-Barbera adventure series “Jonny Quest” is being revived as a potential movie franchise by Warner Bros. Pictures. Inspired by radio shows, comic strips and James Bond movies, “Quest” told the thrilling stories of a young boy who accompanied his scientist father on extraordinary escapades. Also in the mix were his adopted brother from Calcutta, his pet bulldog pup, and the government agent assigned to protect them.

Ummm…. yeah…. I don’t see it. Perhaps if you made it like the recent Nancy Drew movie, make it light and silly and target it at kids, cause an adventure movie with a young kid as the center piece isn’t going to fly…. and even if you do target it at kids… what kid today even known that name “Johnny Quest”? Underdog is SORT OF in the same boat… it took just $11 million on it’s opening weekend, and that at least has a flying talking dog that a lot of kids find appealing.

So bottom line… this wouldn’t be a very good idea at all. But who knows… stranger things have happened.
