I don’t know why, but I just love historical war films. It’s probably got something to do with the fact that it shows humanity at its most vulnerable, desperate pushed to its very limits. It brings out all the evil, good, courage and fear that is in all of us, and really shows what we are made of… and capable of. This new project that Daniel Craig is working on sounds absolutely amazing… it’s called “Defiance”. Here’s the idea of it from Yahoo News:
Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell are joining Daniel Craig in the World War Two resistance movie “Defiance.” The fact-based film revolves around Jewish brothers (Craig, Schreiber and Bell) living in Nazi-occupied Poland who escape into the Belarussian forest where they join Russian resistance fighters. Throughout the war, they build a village inside the forest and save the lives of more than 1,200 Jews.
Sounds a little bit like “Red Dawn” meets “Schindler’s List”.
Another big positive for the film is that it’s being directed by Ed Zwick who recently directed the fantastic “Blood Diamond” which got him some Oscar attention. What remains to be seen is what sort of approach they’re going to take with the film. Will it be more about the horrors of World War 2? Will it be more about the bond between the brothers? Will it be an action film? Will it be some sort of hybrid between the 3?
Regardless, this is one I’m going to be keeping my eye on. It sounds great so far.
