Paul Giamatti Wants Bubba Nosferatu

One of the all time under rated and under appreciated films EVER is Bubba Ho-Tep (but I’ll talk more about that later today), and for ages new we’ve been hearing TONS of talk about a possible follow up film… the title that seemed to get settled on was “Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires”. Delicious!!!

Things are STILL not a go for the project, but if Paul Giamatti has anything to do with it… it will. Our friends over at RottenTomatoes give us this:

“I would really like to do that,” Giamatti revealed. “Did you ever see Bubba Ho-Tep? Great movie. And that director [Don Coscarelli], I love that guy’s movies. All the Phantasm movies and stuff. But we are trying to do it.”

A commitment like that should be money in the bank for Coscarelli, but it turns out B-movie legend Bruce Campbell himself may be the hold up.

“Bruce Campbell was waffling around about whether he wants to play Elvis or not again. So that’s the problem, Giamatti says, “I’m playing Colonel Parker, which will be great, but you gotta have Elvis and you really want him playing Elvis, so hopefully we can get him to do it. If not, I’m sure they will try and find somebody else but I think it’s contingent on whether he’ll do it or not. It’s a great script, a completely insane script. I would love to do that because I love [Bubba Ho-Tep]. It’s a great movie.”

Oh good grief this movie would be pure liquid awesomeness. Come on Bruce! What’s the hold up man? Afraid of getting type casted or something… too late my man! To be honest, hearing that Campbell is the hold up is really surprising to me. From all accounts he absolutely loved doing the first Bubba Ho-Tep (as a side note… Bruce Campbell doing the DVD comentary track as Elvis is one of the best DVD features I’ve ever seen).

Having Paul speak so positively about it does indeed make it sound like things may be happening behind the curtain. Let us hope and pray…. cause who else will save us from the She Vampires if not Bruce?
