There are very few Sci-Fi films that are as celebrated and renowned as Ridley Scott 1982 film “Blade Runner”. Man, people love that movie… and I am one of the very few human beings on the face of the earth that just can’t stand it. We all have at least one of those movies we hate that makes the rest of the population looks at us like we have a third eye. Blade Runner is that film for me. I just hated it.
However, when you make a movie that most on the planet love, you’ve accomplished something special, and you just can’t take that away from Blade Runner. Many fans have been calling for some sort of follow up to the hit film… and apparently Ridley Scott is right there with them. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:
According to “Blade Runner” director Ridley Scott, he’d like to do a sequel to his 1982 classic. “If you have any scripts, you know where to send them,” Scott said this past weekend at Comic Con where he unveiled the new DVD cut of the Harrison Ford starring sci-fi pic. Scott’s plea was legitimate. He is indeed keen to see a script for a sequel and “if it works for him, he’ll try and get it made”, an insider told us today.
Now please keep in mind this is NOT him saying that a Blade Runner sequel is coming… just that he’s like to do one.
As someone who hated the original, would I be interested in seeing a follow up film? Surprisingly yes. I think there could be some value in visiting that place, that character again 25 years later to revisit some of the issues and problems (especially the one about immortality) raised in the first one.
Will this ever happen? I’ll go out on a limb and say “yes”… especially if Indiana Jones 4 is a success. Just my guess.
