It’s always a pleasure to announce a new project that Robert Downey Jr is involved in, because the man is sheer gold in majority of his onscreen performances. (My faves include Home For The Holidays and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) Earlier today it was announced that Downey is set to star alongside Jamie Foxx in The Soloist, a drama based on a true story.
The folks at Movieweb give us this:
Downey will play Steve Lopez, the Los Angeles Times columnist who discovered Nathaniel Ayers, a downtown L.A. homeless man who was a skillful violinist. After learning that Ayers was a prodigy until schizophrenia made it impossible to continue, Lopez wrote columns about the musician and developed a relationship that changed both their lives.
Is it just me, or does this upcoming film project sound eerily similar to next month’s Resurrecting The Champ starring Josh Hartnett and Samuel. L Jackson? Honestly, replace the boxing gloves with a violin and you have the exact same premise!
However, regardless of the similar plot and premise, I am psyched to hear Robert Downey Jr has joined the cast. It’s definitely peaking my interest. What about yours?
Shooting for The Soloist begins in L.A starting January.
