Scarlett Johansson In The Spirit

Miller-Spirit-Movie

There is a trend in Hollywood these days for bigger, more respected actors to take roles in graphic novel adaptations. Christian Bale (Batman), Edward Norton (Hulk), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) ect. ect. ect.

Anyway, we heard some time ago that Sin City author Frank Miller is doing the film “The Spirit” based on the work of Will Eisner. Word now is that Scarlett Johansson is joining the cast. Our friends at Slahfilm ive us this:

Johansson will play a dangerous beauty named Silk N. Floss, a character that THR describes as “a sexy and intelligent secretary with a vindictive instinct that makes her the perfect accomplice to the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), an evil mastermind.” It appears that the character was created for the film adaptation and will probably be a combination of characters from the comic series.

I like Johansson very much. She is a remarkable actress (let’s just let the Nanny movie slide shall we) who has turned in some absolutely incredible performances well beyond her years in the profession. Putting herself in the hands of an untested director like Miller is a bit of a risk… as is getting involved in a project like this in general… but still… I think it’s an interesting mix.
