Call it “Books chicks dig getting movie deals” month. Seems like a rash of movies really geared towards popular women-centric media films are being announced. Obviously there is the whole Sex and the City project, then the other day we talked about the book “He’s just not that into you” getting development… and now we’re reading news that another, very popular with the penis impaired crowd, book is getting the movie treatment. The Shopaholic series.
Our good friends over at Mad About Movies give us this:
Sophie Kinsella’s bestseller about a Rebecca Bloomwood, shopping addict, has been greenlit and given a director. P.J. Hogan brought Muriel’s Wedding, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Peter Pan to the big screen and though I’m not a huge fan of any of those films I have a feeling they’ve hired someone who’ll be able to make a film that resonates with readers and fans of Beky, a character we’ve now followed through four books.
It’s funny this comes up now. A friend of mine has been reading these books and just loves them. She recently read the last one and went into a bit of a “What the hell do I do with myself now?” phase. Since I myself have never read the books, I can’t really give any of intelligent commentary on it (is any of my commentary ever intelligent?), but I’ve seen first hand how people love them.
