Some people really hate the concept of taking a classic story and doing any form up re-imagining with it. Personally, I don’t mind it. It’s just like any other movie to me… if it works, great. If not, oh well. So this news of “Snow and the Seven”, a variation take on the classic story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves caught my attention.
The folks over at JoBlo give us this:
After double-dipping into “Hell on earth” scenarios with CONSTANTINE and I AM LEGEND, where will director Francis Lawrence go next? How about… a chopsockey version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Lawrence is making Disney’s SNOW AND THE SEVEN, an “East meets West” update of the classic fairy tale set in a British colony in China during the late 19th century. It follows a young woman believed by (Seven) Shaolin monks to hold the key to the future within her deathblow-dealing hands. These seven monks will no doubt have identifying characteristics with endearing nicknames to match.
One of my friends has already started blasting this idea… but I’ll be honest with you… I like it. I think it has some fun potential. I’m not totally thrilled with Francis Lawrence as the director, but it could work just fine. Any movie that includes in its description the words: “Then they are trained by Shaolin monks…” is instantly on my radar.
