11 Extras on the set of the new Tom Cruise film Valkyrie which is filming in German at the moment got hurt on Monday. They were all taken to Hospital, but thankfully only one of them was serious enough that he couldn’t be released (no report yet on how serious that one guy is).
When I was on set of new new Incredible Hulk film, I remember very clearly turning to one of my fellow extra guys and saying “You know, it’s amazing more people don’t get hurt doing this stuff”. There was just movement and giant machines and vehicles…. just lots of action going on, and a lot of chaos.
Of coarse the most famous (in recent memory anyway) accident involving extras was during the filming of the “Twilight Zone” movie, where a helicopter spun out of control killing actor Vic Morrow and 2 child extra actors (decapitating Morrow and one of the kids). A movie set can be a very dangerous place.
