Wolfenstein Heading To The Big Screen

Wolfenstein-ImageI still perfectly remember the very first time I saw the game “Wolfenstein”. It was in my buddy Dave’s basement and he loaded it up on his ancient computer (here’s a hint… him “modem” was the kind you actually had to put the receiver of your phone onto). I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was a real first person perspective game in 3d!!!

Later, other incarnations and updates of the game came out (Return to Castle Wolfenstein)… and you knew it was only a matter of time before a studio decided to make it into a movie. That time has apparently come, as a Return To Castle Wolfentein seems to be in the works. The good folks over at Movieweb give us this:

Return to Castle Wolfenstein takes place during World War II. U.S. Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz is sent to Transylvania to investigate the Nazis’ SS Paranormal Division. Yes, that’s right. It’s about Nazi vampires. Avary stated, “I’ve been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic Wolfenstein 3D first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen. It’s time to bust some dams, storm some bunkers and blow up some bridges.”

One the one hand this sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I mean, who doesn’t love hunting Nazi vampires? It’s fun for the whole family. But on the other more obvious hand… all video game movies end up sucking… and sucking large.

Roger Avary already has some experiece with the genre (Silent Hill), but he’s also been involved with some decent things too. As always, adopt a “wait and see” mentality for this one. At the moment there is no production start date or estimate as to when it might actually get to the screen.
