Jim Broadbent Joins Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince

Broadbent-PotterThe Harry Potter franchise is one I’ve never really been into… but for some reason I’ve found that the last 2 installments have really got the series in its stride now. This last Potter film I found the be the best narrative of the bunch so far. Great character development and just solid storytelling… even with a lack of action I quite enjoyed it. You know what else I enjoy? Seeing Jim Broadbent on the screen.

I’ve seen Broadbent in a lot of things… but the first time I really went “holy crap this guy is amazing” was for his part in Moulin Rouge. The dude was just pure magic in that film (as was pretty much everyone in that movie), and ever since then I’ve paid closer attention to anything he puts his face in. And you know what I always say… “Adding talent is never a bad thing”… and it appears Harry Potter has just added this huge talent to its next installment. The good folks at RopeOfSilicon give us this:

“He’s called Horace Slughorn. He’s a retired teacher of magic who’s drawn back out of retirement because he’s got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he’s quite star struck as a teacher and he’s drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he’s drawn back by Harry.”

It’s taken a few years… but I’m now at a point where I’m actually looking forward to the new Harry Potter movies.
