The very contraversial Persepolis, an animated film from France, will be entered into the New York Film Festival. The film won the Prize of the Jury award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was dropped from the the state-sponsored Bangkok International Film Festival.
The award-winning animated film Persepolis, which tells the story of an Iranian girl growing up at the time of the Islamic revolution, has been selected as France’s entry in the 2008 Oscars for best foreign-language film. The film took the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival this year and has been selected to close the New York Film Festival next month.
This film does not paint Iran in a good light during this time in history and has recieved a fair amount of bashing from Islamic community and the Iranian Government. The Wiki entry describes the film:
It tells the story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Through the eyes of the nine-year-old Marjane it shows how people’s hopes were dashed as the fundamentalists took power, forced the veil on women and imprisoned thousands.
I am curious about how an American Film Festival audience will recieve this film?
