Spaceballs TV Show Details

One of my favorite comedies of all time is still Spaceballs. I’m sure the fact that Star Wars is my favorite movie of all time has something to do with that… but still… some of the one liners in that movie are amongst the funniest ever spoken. My #1 all time funniest moment in movie history is still when Dark Helmut turns to Lone Star during their Schwartz battle and says “Now Lonestar… you will see that evil will always triumph… because good… is DUMB”. I still giggle like an idiot whenever I think about it.

Anyway, news came out a while ago that they were looking at doing a Spaceballs animated TV show. Everything for the show is now moving ahead. The show has a pilot episode and 13 episodes to follow. Here’s the description for the pilot… tell me if this sounds familiar:

In the pilot, written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, Dark Helmet kidnaps Princess Vespa so he can blackmail her father, King Roland, into giving up the planet’s air. Dark Helmet wants to steal the air to save his own planet, Planet Spaceball, run by the fiendish President Skroob. This leads Princess Vespa’s dad to hire Lone Starr and Barf the Mawg to rescue the princess. After a battle with Dark Helmet, they successfully save the princess and get the air back to Planet Druidia.

So basically they’re re-doing the original movie in animated form. I guess that makes sense since it’s now been TWENTY YEARS since the movie. YIKES! Hot damn now I feel old. (source: Moviehole)
