Ahhh… where have all the good mad scientist movies gone? This one sounds like it could be a lot of fun… although a little bit like The Island of Dr. Moreau suspiciously. Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley (who was just awesome and sexy as hell in Beowulf and Grendel) have just joined up for the new flick Splice which is described by the folks over at movieweb like this:
The story explores a dark vision of the world of genetic engineering in which two young scientists (Polley and Brody) become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. They ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiment.
As I mentioned in a previous post today, I think Adrien Brody is a hell of an actor, and one who sadly has been misused a lot since winning his Oscar a couple of years back. He’s not your traditional good looking movie star which is part of the reason I think he’s been miscast a lot. But I digress.
Splice sounds like it could be a lot of fun… but much wiill deepened on the approach they take with it. Will it be a preachy message movie about the perils of reckless science in the modern age? Will it be a fun adventure style flick? And like I said above, it does sound a bit like Dr. Moreau… which should be enough to send chills (bad ones) down your spine. Meh, good concept, good talent… no reason not to look forward to it.
