Eddie Murphy To Join Brian Robbins’ A Thousand Words

Eddie-Murphy-ThousandAnd the long, desperate, painful farewell to the Eddie Murphy we once all knew and loved so much continues along its painful sad road. From Comingsoon:

Eddie Murphy and director Brian Robbins are in final talks to re-team for the DreamWorks comedy A Thousand Words. The pair recently collaborated on Norbit for DreamWorks and the upcoming Starship Dave for 20th Century Fox. The story centers on a glib man who finds out that he has only 1,000 words left to speak before he dies. Steve Koren (Click) wrote the screenplay.

The concept is admittedly an interesting one. But with Murphy hooking up with the Norbit director again, I have little to no hope or optimism for such a project. It’s hard to blame Eddie Murphy for abandoning his true comedic talent and doing horrible watered down trash like this (and almost every other film he’s done in the last 10 years) when it makes the kind of cash that it does. Hell… I’d do it too. But it doesn’t stop me from lamenting the great comedic performer Murphy once was… and probably never will be again.
