No secret around here that I’m a fan of the Transformers movie. Pure, kick ass action goodness. Some disagree, and that’s fair enough… doesn’t effect my love and joy of it one bit. Looks like Paramount is trying to put things in high gear now for Transformers 2, having already confirmed Michael Bay is coming back, and having announced a release date for summer 2009, it seems they’ve got the writers back on board too. Sci Fi gives us this:
Writer Ehren Kruger and the team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are in negotiations to team to write the screenplay for DreamWorks/Paramount’s upcoming sequel film Transformers 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ok… well that’s all well and good and everything… but the Writers Guild of America (which I assume Kurtzman and Orci are a part of) just sent out a letter to its members seeking strike permission. Now this is all theoretical, but if the WGA decides to strikes early (they can strike as early as the end of October!)… what does that do to Transformers 2? They sure as hell won’t have a script!
Right now it feels like Paramount is trying to drive a van with half a tank of gas from New York to Las Vegas. They just keep saying “We’re going to Vegas” and ignore the realities of the gas gauge. I’m actually a little surprised they didn’t have a script ready a while ago. “We’re releasing Transformers 2 summer 2009″… but the strike gauge seems to suggest otherwise. I sure hope this works out. Maybe they can crank out a script in a couple of weeks (that isn’t far fetched if they already have the main idea).
