Yes ladies and gentlemen, yet another comic book film adaptation is in the works. Bruce Willis has signed on to star in the film adaptation to ‘The Surrogates.’ Jonathan Brancato and Michael Ferris are set to write the script and Jonathan Mostow(director of ‘Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines’) is set to direct the Touchstone Pictures film.
The good folks at FilmJunk give us this news:
The Surrogates is based on the 5-issue comic book mini-series by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele, which takes place in the year 2054, with a pair of detectives trying to stop a techno-terrorist bent on destroying what are known as “surrogates” — widespread androids that interact for people in the real world, taking on any physical form they want. Bruce Willis has just signed on to star, and Michael Ferris and John Brancato (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, The Net, Catwoman) will write the script.
Wow, this sounds like it could be an awesome addition to the SCI-FI world, but I’m a little worried considering who the writing team is and what they previously wrote. ‘T3,’ ‘The Net’, and ‘Catwoman’?!? AHHHH!!! It already sounds like this film is destined to suck.
Although, you never know what writers are capable of. ‘Identity’ which is one of my all time favorite films due to its unique plot twists and clever story was also written by the sameman responsible for the ‘Jack Frost’ series! (The Killer Snowman films) So anything is possible. (At least Bruce Willis is attached!)
Let’s hope the filmmakers can please ‘The Surrogate’ comic fans, but until I hear any exciting hype about this upcoming film, I’m going to expect the worst, and hope for the best.
