The Tron news out today is that; the new project is going to be a sequel, not a remake, and it looks like Jeff Bridges will be back on board for the next chapter. We get the scoop today from collider via the moviehole:
‘The Dude’ says he’s being pitched an idea soon, and says “…the reasons to do it and the reason I did that one (The original Tron) was because it was so innovative and I understand that they’ve got a whole new batch of stuff like that… innovations that they want to use on this so that could be kind of fun.”
I am curious to see how a sequel will work 20 years after the original. Although strange to have so much time between the two, I think it is a better idea than a remake of the first film. With the freedom of modern effects it will be glorious to see what worlds the Tron gladiators will do battle in. That being said – they must wear the neon suits. A modern Tron does not mean we should forget all the fantastic neon effects.
Jeff Bridges is a rock solid thespian. I am always glad to see him in film and consider his work in Lebowski as one of the greatest comedic performances of all time. If Bridges is back on board the Tron train, then I will gladly ride the rails. Tron is Kron. (Kron is Welland vernacular for high quality)
