The one movie that is making us all cringe more than lines spoken by JarJar Binks is threatening to be put on the shelf. I am talking about the Justice League of America movie. (No news about them dropping the “America” to make it more international friendly)
At Warner Bros., “Justice League of America” finds itself without a shooting script and has options expiring on potential actors who recently were screen tested. As a result, it might have to postpone production.
Now this is likely the BEST news about the JLA film that I have heard yet. Every little bit that comes out about this flick is just making me roll my eyes without exception. The writer’s strike may affect JLA more profoundly than any of us could have hoped.
Personally I think that casting a younger cast to appeal to the kids is just cheese. With other very successful franchises out there already going, it makes little sense to cast someone ELSE in a parallel role.
I know this is a less popular idea, but I think this movie is TOO soon. We should have a Wonder Woman movie, Flash, Green Lantern etc. And get the same actors to appear in a movie with the existing franchise runners to star in a mega flick. People say this will never happen just because of the budget. But 10 years ago if someone said it would be cool to have a movie with Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Julia Roberts, all in a movie with an extra handful of notable actors, you would say they were crazy. Oceans 11 came out and they all took a pay cut to be in it. And it was cool.
The other side of that argument is that they should at least have Bale and Routh playing their super selves and use the movie as a springboard to launch those other franchises that don’t have as big of a staple in our pop culture. That would work too.
Maybe as their options expire and these hot young actors who have no right to be in these roles will turn them away and the producers will have to look at doing this movie a different way.
Maybe.
I can hope.
