Now this would be an odd bit of casting. The word going around right now is that Tom Cruise has been offered and will accept the role of legendary Playboy boss Hugh Hefner. M&C report:
Tom Cruise is set to play Hugh Hefner in a new biopic of the Playboy founder’s life. The 45-year-old actor, who has an 18-month-old daughter Suri with his actress wife Katie Holmes, is hot favourite to portray the 81-year-old lothario in upcoming movie ‘Playboy’ and is reportedly excited about the prospect of bringing Hefner’s “colourful life” to the big screen. A source close to the actor said: “Tom knows of Hugh’s colourful past and thinks he would be the perfect person to bring it to the big screen.
Now it should be mentioned here that Tom Cruise’s official spokes person is refusing to confirm this, but did acknowledge that their people have been talking. Up to this point it seemed like something of a foregone conclusion that Leonardo DiCaprio was going to suit up in the big smoking jacket… but maybe not.
Tom Cruise as Hugh Hefner. Hmmm… well as strange as it seems, I’ve always said brining talent on board is never a bad idea… and as totally strange as the little guy has become over the years, you can’t deny the man has acting chops coming out his ears. He’s a very gifted actor and I’m sure he’d find a way to make the part his own.
Having said that… it just seems too strange. Hefer isn’t a short guy… and having a man who most of Hollywood seems to commonly accept as gay, playing history’s most famous ladies man does seem odd. But, that’s why it’s called acting, so I have no problem with it. But really? Cruise as Hef? I’d still like to see Bruce Campbell as Hefner. Then again I’d go to see any Campbell movie even if he was playing Tyra Banks.
