News out today that Catharine Keener may work with director Nicole Holofcener for a fourth time in an upcoming untitled project. We get the scoop this morning from the caves of yahoo:
Catherine Keener is in final negotiations to reunite with Nicole Holofcener, who directed the actress in her previous three films.
The indie project, still untitled, centers on a group of New women who live in the same New York apartment. It is described as a look at friendship, old age and real estate. Keener would play the main character, who has a cantankerous elderly neighbor. Both Keener’s character, who owns the woman’s apartment, and the woman’s two granddaughters are in some ways waiting for the woman to die.
Caherine Keener earned my allegiance after I saw her in Death To Smoochy, I love that movie, and she was great in it. She is always a welcome addition to any film, and I find her presence to be delightful. From Being John Malkovich to The 40 Year Old Virgin to Capote – she is in enough awesome stuff that you should know who she is, and appreciate her artistry.
This upcoming film that she is doing has a plot reminiscent of the film Duplex that was helmed by under-appreciated director Danny Devito. I have had a crazy elderly neighbor – they suck; and let me tell you – they have no love for Slayer cranked to 6. This crazy woman would bang the hell out of my door in the middle of a Saturday afternoon telling me to tun down my metal. One day the landlord was doing maintenance in the hallway and saw her complaining – he yelled at her at and called her crazy within her earshot. Metal was played at 8 after his blessing.
Holofcener and Keener previously worked together on Friends with Money, Lovely and Amazing, and Walking and Talking. I haven’t seen any of these films but may go and grab one just to see what dynamic is developing between the director and the actress. I remember catching a trailer for Friends with Money and being interested – I will hunt for that one. We will keep you posted on the progress of this project and let you know when it gets a name.
