You would think starring in this year’s forgettable ‘The Reaping’ would keep this two time Oscar winner away from the horror genre, but think again. Hilary Swank has signed on to star and to produce an adaptation of John Mark’s novel, ‘Fangland.’
Cinematical gives us these details:
John Marks is a former producer of 60 Minutes, and Fangland merges Bram Stoker’s legend of Dracula with his experience on the news show. Yes, that means Hilary is heading back to the vamps, but with a little more drama than her role on Buffy. Evangeline Harker (Swank) is a producer for a television news story who takes an assignment to go into Romania and investigate a criminal legend, Ion Torgu, to get him on camera.
Every two-four years in the horror genre, a sub-genre always becomes popular. From 1996 to 2000 it was the ‘pop culture enriched slashers. From 2000 to 2004 it was the ‘J-horror remake phenomenon.’ From 2004 to 2007 it was the ever so tired ‘Torture Porn’ genre. In 2008, I think it will be the ‘Year of the Vampire,’ because there are so many vampire films coming out throughout the next couple of years.
I for one am very excited about this because I am sucker for vampire films. ‘Fangland’ sounds quite promising. I like the premise of mixing Dracula with a news show, and it pans out well.
Do you think Hilary can redeem herself from last year’s ‘The Reaping’ or do you think this project will be detrimental to her career? Comment away!
