Kevin James has landed a comedic lead in the upcoming Mall Cop. We get the following heads up via comingsoon:
Steve Carr will direct Columbia Pictures’ Kevin James comedy Mall Cop.
The story centers on a mild-mannered security guard (James) thrust into action when highly organized thieves take over his mall. Steve Pink (High Fidelity) wrote the most recent draft, while James penned an earlier version with Nick Bakay.
There’s 2 types of mall cops; the first think are doing legitimate policing and are usually overachieving underachievers (the worst kind of people), the latter group consists of slackers that enjoy looking at mall sluts and taking it easy (these guys are alright). These two clans would have nothing to do with each other, if it were not for their shared employment that they love so dearly, for very, very, different reasons.
Being a Mall Officer is a funny vocation, and it is cool that a movie is being made about these unsung heroes. What is interesting to me is that Steve Pink was brought up to write the most recent script for the film. High Fidelity still has a dedicated following and if Pink can bring the same kind of magic to this film, then we are in store for some good times.
Kevin James is a likable guy and has good comedic timing. I do not know if he is “leading man” hilarious, but this is certainly an appropriate vessel in which he may be fairly judged. Mall Cop begins shooting in early 2008 and we will keep you posted in the progress.
