Add hospital administrator to the long list of roles that Samuel L. has done in his varied and sleepless career. He has scored the lead in the upcoming film Unfinished Country. We get the news and following plot synopsis from the elder caves of Yahoo:
Samuel L. Jackson is attached to star in “Unfinished Country,” a “Training Day”-style thriller that will shoot on location in South Africa.
Jackson plays the chief administrator of an overcrowded hospital located in Johannesburg’s violent Soweto township. His treatment methods are put into question when an American student arrives to do his residency and the hospital gets caught in the crossfire of local gang warfare.
This is the medical/gang drama that I have been waiting for! I love it when different genres come together to create new and exciting types. I am still waiting for a film about pregnant cops that walk the beat and take no guff. That may have been a poor comparison, but I will keep it – because pregnant cops are funny.
The continent of Africa is full of turmoil and sorrow. This makes for poor living conditions and fantastic dramatic adaptations. With AK-47’s readily available, gang warfare is just that. No 9mm bullshit, we are talking full-on assault rifle, blow em up mayhem. As a fan of 80’s gang films, I welcome gang stories from other continents. What are the uniforms that they wear? What motivates them? Do they have the mysterious and barbaric “jump in” initiations? Will they let me join?
If this film focuses more on the gangs and less on the hospital administration, I will be pleased.
