We have news of a yet to be named Iraq War drama that will be helmed by Paul Greengrass. We get the scoop today thanks to the professionals at Variety:
Director Paul Greengrass has set Amy Ryan and Greg Kinnear to star alongside Matt Damon in the untitled Iraq war thriller that begins shooting today in Spain for Universal Pictures. Pic is inspired by Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s nonfiction book “Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone.” Greengrass and Brian Helgeland turned the premise into a fictional thriller set in the “Green Zone,” a walled and fortified area where U.S. troops stay during the Iraq occupation. There, critics say, flawed decisions are made because leaders are separated from the realities of life in war-torn Iraq.
I can’t say a thriller about searching for weapons of mass destruction floats my boat, but the cast they are assembling looks fantastique. It will be nice to see Kinnear and Damon back together after their partnership in the very disappointing Stuck On You. Greengrass and Damon are back together post Bourne Ultimatum which was insanely well received by critics and the kids on the streets.
Greengrass impressed me very much with his work on United 93, and his reign of righteous work seems to be soldiering on. This man may have a golden womb of movie birthing. We will keep our eye on him and his future projects closely. No word on a title or release date as of yet, but we will be sure to keep you posted!
