It looks like Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay will debut at the SXSW film fest this year. We get the scoop thanks to our friends at cinematical:
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference & Festival has announced additional titles and guest speakers confirmed for this year’s event, March 7-15, in Austin, Texas. Among the big titles unveiled, is the highly-anticipated New Line Cinema release Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. In the sequel to the hit comedy, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, the boys (Kal Penn and John Cho) get themselves in trouble trying to sneak a bong onboard a flight to Amsterdam. Now, being suspected of terrorism, they are forced to run from the law and try to find a way to prove their innocence. What follows is an irreverent and epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip around the world that is as “un-PC” as it gets.
I have heard nothing but amazing things regarding SXSW. I have friends from the north that make the journey down and have told me it is worth the drive. Austin is a bitchin’ Texas town, the music fest is supposed to rule and with the addition of a film festival – it may be the coolest place on earth to spend your March break. I need to get down there and enjoy the scene first hand.
I loved the first Harold and Kumar film and am pumped to see this one. The movie had a huge cult following and exploded due to word of mouth on the rental market. For those of you that plan to go to SXSW this is huge news, If I am not there myself please let us know about the film and send along your thoughts.
I am wondering if NPH will be in attendance. I need to get a stuffed unicorn and see if he will sign it – that would be an artifact for the ages.
The SXSW Film Festival opens March 7 and the film is released in theaters April 25, 2008.
